Kata Hinterlechner lives and works in Vienna and Innsbruck.
Her artistic practice is rooted in an in-depth engagement with landscape, nature and the thresholds between visibility and absence, culture and nature, interior and exterior. She works across painting, collage, photography, sculpture/object art and installation. For Hinterlechner, landscape is not a matter of direct representation but of projection and abstraction, where temporality, memory, and traces emerge through both presence and absence. Her works oscillate between clarity and dissolution, allowing oppositions to overlap, erode, and re-form. (Lisa Huxley, USA)
Since 2018, Hinterlechner has collaborated with Bosko Gastager in the artist collective EXPERIMENTAL SETUP. Together, they realise performative installations, site-specific interventions, and art-in-architecture projects. From 2020 to 2022, the collective designed the IFFIGENIA Film Awards for the International Film Festival Innsbruck (AT) and, in 2023, staged a radical musical performance with the Wilten Boys’ Choir in the industrial setting of the former foundry at St. Bartlmä 3 in Innsbruck (AT).
